Detailing to be done later. I don’t know how many layers are on this boy, 15? 20? Took a long time to get to the dark brown that I wanted. Looks better than the photo.
Update 1/13/10 – She has a name! Zips Choc On By.
In case you were wondering, here is Zips Choc On By’s reference, Chocolua.

And there he is. Will post photos once the details have been finished. Not looking forward to that part.

Well, honestly the Lady Phase is just too much work for a first timer. She’s since had an additional coat, but I’m to lazy to continue with her. Not turning out the way I wanted, got dark too fast (looks like a weird buckskin right now) so I turned to a stablemate jumper. I’m on coat, um… 7? and he’s turning out far better than expected. Unfortunately he was originally a leopard appaloosa (OF) and the black spots were impossible to primer over, so he’s not showable. But, he is going to be an excellent first attempt (and finished) so he will stay around here for the rest of his life as a reminder of how I started out. As soon as the pastels are done with him, I will post a photo and then somehow start on the details (I dread that part, never been good with a paint brush).

Threw some black on there now. Going to have to get a little redder for this to work. Compare to: Louis Quatorze.

The shading has really begun. Starting to look like a horse now.

Shading has started, going into the darker colors. At this point I have given up on my old reference and started a new one.

Well, after getting sick last night off the first two coats, I took a long break and resumed this morning with the third coat. The horse is definitely coming into color.

I think I’m about to throw up from all of the dust. But, we’re getting there.
